Fat Removal Surgery - Liposuction | Houston

Liposuction is the one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures in America. It involves the removal of undesirable fat pockets in the body that do not respond to diet and/or exercise. Liposuction areas include: the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, hips, waist, neck, chin, cheeks, and the upper arms.
Dr. Baylan uses different liposuction techniques depending on your desired results. We discuss these in detail during your pre op consultation. As with everything we do, we tailor your liposuction journey to your individual needs and desires.

Where Can I Have Lipo Done?

The most popular liposuction locations are:
  • Abdomen
  • Waist
  • Back/Flanks
  • Hips and Thighs
  • Arms
  • Neck/Chin
  • Buttocks
  • Cheeks
In addition, liposuction can be used in breast reduction or to treat gynecomastia.

Am I a Candidate for Liposuction?

Body contouring with liposuction is generally considered a low risk elective procedure. It’s usually outpatient. Patients must be in good general health. Ideally a patient’s BMI would be less than 30. They should also be within 10% of their ideal body weight.

What Happens During Fat Removal Surgery?

As with any procedure we will go over the pre and post op care in detail well before your procedure. We can use general or local anesthesia for liposuction. The choice depends on the patient and treatment plan.
During the procedure, we inject a solution into the targeted fat deposits. It helps break up the fat and contains numbing medicine (lidocaine) for patient comfort. Dr. Baylan makes tiny incisions, usually around one third of an inch, in the surgical site. Next, he inserts a thin suction tube, called a cannula through the incisions. He moves the tube back and forth to break up the fat cells in the area, which are then suctioned out. Patients receive intravenous replacement fluids throughout the procedure to make up for any blood or fluid loss.

What Does Recovery Look Like?

Recovery from liposuction can vary. Each patient is different and each liposuction journey is different. Recovery can be as short as a couple days, but can also take up to a month with extensive procedures.

We require all patients to wear post operative compression garments after their procedure. These help the area adapt to its new contour. There will be some bruising and swelling, but liposuction is generally well tolerated.

Good skin elasticity can help with the remolding process. We offer several treatments at our Medspa that can help with this. We usually also recommend post lymphatic massage after liposuction to help reduce any irregularities.

Liposuction Results

Results are immediate. You will see full results once the swelling and bruising subsides, which can last for weeks to months.
Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. It does permanently remove pockets of fat. While fat will not return to the site of the procedure, it can form in other adjacent areas with weight gain. For the best long term results, it's important that patients adopt a healthy diet and exercise regimen.
