Breast Augmentation | Houston

Breast Augmentation, also known as breast implants, are one of the most common breast enhancement surgeries. Dr. Baylan, plastic surgeon here at Advanced Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery understands the complexities in making the decision to get breast augmentation surgery.

He knows each woman has her own concerns, insecurities and desired results. During your consultation he will tailor your breast augmentation plan to help you reach your desired results.

Things to Consider During Your Breast Augmentation Consultation

Saline or Silicone Breast Implants?

You will decide between saline or silicone breast implants.

Saline implants require a small incision.  They are filled with saline once inside the breast pocket.  In the event of rupture, your body will absorb the saline solution.

Silicone breast implants feel much closer to natural breast tissue. However, if they rupture, the silicone will need to be removed from the breast pocket where the implant was placed.

Breast Augmentation Incision Location?

There are three options for your incision location:

-In the armpit (axillary)

-At the base of areola complex (peri-areolar)

-In the crease on the underside of the breast (inframammary)

Dr. Baylan will discuss the pros and cons of each incision at the time of the consultation

Above or Below the Muscle?

You’ll also need to decide if you’d like the implants placed above or below the chest (prectoralis) muscle for your breast augmentation.

Breast implants placed beneath the muscle have a lower risk of capsular contracture. Capsular contracture is when scar tissue forms around the implant, leading to a tightening sensation and sometimes appearance. This location will also lead to fewer issues during mammograms.

The other option is to place the implant under the breast tissue, but above the chest muscle. This generally makes for an easier recovery after surgery.

Recovery from Breast Augmentation Surgery

Our goal of comprehensive care at Advanced Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery means we want to prepare you for every step of your journey. This includes the recovery step.

Breast augmentation patients usually feel sore and tired for a day or two after their procedure. Recovery is different for each individual but on average patients return to work in 2-4 weeks.

During recovery, you may experience some post-operative sensations, such as pain, sensitivity and swelling. These sensations will fade over the first couple of weeks after surgery.

During your pre op consultations we will go over in detail what you can expect during recovery.
